Houzz Tour: Clever cumbersome in a Compact - Dublin apartment when the owner of this compact apartment in Dublin contacted designer Eva Byrne, the place was crowded and desperately needs renovation. Thank you to some reconfiguration thoughtful and intelligent design elements, Byrne managed to turn it into a space that feels bigger than it actually is.

Storage bins perfectly fit in the cupboard under the sink, while a flat chrome handrail hangs above the work surface, providing a convenient place for utensils. "It is both practical and stylish," Byrne said. "And it gives the room a bit of character."
The units are hand made from MDF and sprayed white. Byrne took the wall units to the ceiling to avoid dust collecting on top. The units contain adjustable shelves that can be moved to meet different storage needs.

In the original layout, the door in the hallway was located where the sofa is now. This meant the only place for the couch was next door to the terrace. He blocked the light and the one sitting on it's back to the outside view. Byrne has moved closer to the door of the kitchen, so the sofa could face the fireplace and television and there is a view on the terrace and trees beyond.

A single lamp Ikea floor sits next to a Danish chair. "I want to put functional, high-street furniture next to several unique pieces," says Byrne.

Byrne turned small area of the bedroom and the odd shape in a clever design feature. The entrance to the room is narrow, and opens to the asymmetric space where the bed is sitting. Byrne moved the entrance slightly to incorporate a hallway closet and built from floor to ceiling cabinets along the space. "It separates the bed area of the dressing area," she says, "and creates a sense of luxury two areas." The chic effect, is a real bonus, given the tiny space.

floating boxes shelves are used as side tables to keep the ground clear and create a sense of flow. The bed has drawers underneath storage, which are extremely practical in a small space. The palette of blue and simple white color makes the room feel peaceful and uncluttered.

Originally the bed faces the hallway door, but Byrne moved so that it now seems on the outside terrace. Sliding doors save on floor space and are supervised by a comfortable linen and silk curtains. The overall atmosphere in the room is quiet and relaxing.

Each area of the washing station has been carefully thought out. The machine washing space has a useful work surface on top, while a rod is exactly 120cm above, leaving room to hang clothes.
