Houzz Tour: A Home Last updated in 1970 is ly transformed - Making changes to the exterior of a property in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty is always a little a delicate operation, but when the owners of this house in Berkshire first took possession of the place, it was clear he needed a significant amount of work on it ... and not just to inside.
The property consists of a barn turn-of-century in which a building of the 1970s red brick was added fairly confused way. "There was absolutely no flow inside, and it was very dated," says interior designer Lucy Crockett, who was drafted by the owners to take on the renovation. "The owners wanted to do much more of a family home, and something that would be sitting in his environment but also be contemporary," she says. "The goal was to focus on the refurbishment of the building rather than the interior, since the owners are both creative and wanted the interior to evolve over time.

Most of the materials and colors chosen throughout the property have been influenced by the landscape.
The old barn is seen here on the left. The extension 1970 was added to about half of what is now, and there was a garage addition, too. Crockett had the garage removed and replaced with the far right section, opened the porch, replaced all the windows and clad the building. Inside, she emptied the space completely and reconfigured to give more flow.
To make the most of the view to the river, Crockett has created a great hallway with double height glazing to welcome home owners each day. The floor tiles are printed with leaves and flowers to keep the connection with the outside

doors open onto the garden as soon as you enter the lobby, you have a sense of the environment. Crockett built a substantial amount of storage under the stairs to keep the space clutter.
the right of the hallway is the kitchen-dining room. "The kitchens are very well the heart of the house, Crockett said," so I wanted to create a space that would be easy to drag and it does not feel too much like a kitchen.
She went for most low-level cupboards in soft colors to make them read more like furniture than the kitchen units. "I wanted the space to feel smooth and soft to work, but at the same time create a place that has fulfilled its function as a kitchen and dining space, she said.

Large sliding doors can be opened on sunny days to create a space that almost feels outdoors. One of the main parts of the memory for the kitchen was to have a large fridge and larder cupboard hand side. "The flow of food was important," explains the designer. Crockett went for blues and greens on the cabinets. 'Blue is a very harmonious color, and the owners live near the river and often have beautiful skies. We did not want anything too light and girlie, but that we want something too dark and brutal, so the marriage of blue and green tone was very important, "she says.
The other side of the island has open shelves and sliding shelves that act as drawers. "The owners wanted to be able to put things right away, without having to worry about pulling open cupboards and drawers all the time," says Crockett.

left the hall is the living room. The owners wanted to create a more intimate space where people could sit and chat and be by the wood stove. On a sunny day, the sliding doors can be opened to give that feeling of being outdoors.

Crockett asked the same parquet engineered oak that it was whitewashed, as she in the kitchen-diner to create a sense of continuity and flow throughout the house. She chose a curly wool carpets. "Textures were very important in the design. We wanted to use materials inside that chimed with the outside. The carpet looks like pebbles, and oak flooring is a reflection of the oak cladding to the outside, "she says.
A half-length wall (seen in the image above) separates the space playful TV corner. Crockett from Ikea carcasses happened to go into space, then folds doors were painted pale blue, which connects with the kitchen range. She kept the edges of the painting without folds, so that when you open the doors you see the edges of the folds.

On the first floor, four bedrooms, one of which is currently used as a studio by the owners. The master bedroom is on the left as you come to the stairs, in the newly built part of the property. Crockett went to a vaulted ceiling to reflect the roof of the barn at the other end of the house. "We wanted to create a sense of space and also maybe the house was old for this purpose as well, she said.
The idea was to get the best views in every room of the property. There are windows and a Juliet balcony with views down the river. Simple fitted wardrobes offer plenty of storage space.

The main bathroom is accessed through two doors, which are each side of the wardrobe in the bedroom. Crockett went for porcelain tiles wood effect to reflect the trees outside, and also reflect the low floor. Behind the wooden wall effect is a shower on one side and a bathroom on the other.

turning right at the top of the stairs takes you through a hallway, bedroom, bathroom and a second bedroom on the right. Down the hall on the left is the fourth bedroom or studio space, in the old part barn.

down the hall on the left is the fourth bedroom with en suite bathroom. It is currently used by the owners as a studio for their art and design. The beams were painted dark brown, while Crockett had stripped to their original color. The floor is hardboard, because it is convenient and it does not matter if it's messy. Crockett also installed another Juliette balcony where there was once just a skylight. All the furniture was' clean owners.
The bathroom with the fourth bedroom is compact but space works especially good. "Fortunately, the distance between the eaves is sufficient to meet a full length bath, Crockett said, 'and it also separates good. At the rear of the house is a large garden. "The space had already been planted and does not need any work to do to him.
