Houzz Tour: An Idyllic Old Rectory with French Country Views - Nestled in a small French village that housed the royal kennels in the reign of King Louis XIV, the 16th century former presbytery in the Yvelines countryside has now been converted into a charming house. It is the perfect weekend for Catherine and Peter, who sought the help of interior designer Catherine Sandin to help turn the old property in their new bolthole.

the living area was once home to large pieces of dark wood furniture, but it was completely renovated by the new owners, who brought light into the room with soft colors and natural light. They painted the woodwork, then sanded beams and whitewashed, which greatly increased the sense of light and space.

Catherine dressed the twin beds, used by two granddaughters of the couple, with old shutters, and added two organdy curtains to create the feeling of awnings. Medallions depicting Marie Antoinette were hung above the beds to acquiesce in the long historical tradition of the region.

En bathroom is flooded with light thanks to a large skylight. The faucet, sink and traditional towels, which was found in a junk shop, give the room a retro feel.

upstairs, Peter and Catherine decided to sacrifice the loft to allow space for two bedrooms. The boards coated pine bring warmth to the space while roof windows allow plenty of natural light to enter the room.

At the behind the house, the owners have created a little piece of pure relaxation, allowing them to enjoy the sun at mealtimes and during the long sunny afternoon.
