Houzz Tour: A forever home that connects to the landscape in Australia - When architect Richard Cole has designed this house, he had the advantage of knowing the habits and routines of its future occupants inside - it was the home of his parents were living during their retirement years. "The house acts as a container for possessions accumulated during their life," Richard said. "There is a place for a bottle of whiskey, a kitchenette where busy schedules can be arranged, a platform where the dusk can be enjoyed; the house is both sanctuary and gallery.
The house was b uilt on an escarpment in a conservation area of densely urbanized heritage on the lower north shore of Sydney. "The design called for minimum tolerances [margin for error], which requires a high level of competence and cooperation between business, Richard said.

main bedroom has panoramic views over the trees and the valley at every turn, with lighting built for easy look that detracts from the natural beauty of the wood cladding and ceiling. Tallow wood flooring 130mm wide is finished Synteko "Natural".
"We designed two levels feel solid at the back, to feel part vaulted as against the slope and open to the views of the south and west," said Richard .

The suite theme continues in the wood, but the marble mosaic tiles help the space feel light and airy. The entrance to the shower and bathroom were sufficient to accommodate a wide wheelchair if needed in the future.

in the bathroom downstairs, we had to convince to get Tina and Terry agree on an exposed rock wall, fearing it would get wet. Fortunately, Richard had adequate drainage installed to prevent moisture.
