Houzz Tour: A contemporary flat in an old factory in West London - A converted warehouse does not appear automatically unbelievable, the owner has discovered when he moved in a rather drab apartment dated in a former factory building in Chiswick, west London. He, however, have a large number of building blocks for a cool and contemporary pad, and sometimes all it takes is a little help. That's why he called in the designer Alison Teverini. "He wanted something that was industrial, but not too clinical," she said, "something comfortable with a neutral palette."

The ceilings throughout the property are very high, so Teverini installed paneling in the hall to make it more intimate. It includes small pegs for hanging coats. The designer has also decided not to use hanging lamps, and opted instead to add detail with sconces industrial style.
The white block to the other side of the bench is a spacious closet, mirror face keep the feeling of open space.

original, Crittall steel framed windows flood the apartment with light. The living room is a large space with high ceilings, so it lent itself to an open regime plan.
Having lived in a period property already, the owner held for a change and wanted to keep contemporary and industrial look throughout.

previously, there was no real shape or definition of different areas within the space. Teverini was able to introduce a bit by bringing kitchen units around separate cooking space, and adding a bench to create a bright dining room.

A pendant declaration light further defines the dining room, and adds interest to the airy space. In addition, Teverini installed lighting on the beams and steel joinery.

rather unusual stairs lead to a small study at the mezzanine. "We just wanted to do something a little different standard stairs," says Teverini. The uneven steps correspond to hardwood, but are quite interesting and graphic.

The kitchen already very bland and tired. "It did not work well as before commissioning and have no definition," says Teverini.

The room had been smaller, with steps to a second mezzanine. "The mezzanine was no head height, so we reconfigured the space and put a scale in the hallway, so the mezzanine can be used for storage," says Teverini.
She was aware that with such a high ceiling, something needed to be added for visual interest. It installs on most paneling, with a mural wallpaper of a Paris cityscape above.

The owner wanted something elegant with lots of storage, so big, closets were installed. Teverini added strip lighting to the beams here and above the paneling to highlight the mural.

the bathroom is big enough to accommodate a bathtub and shower. The style of the room chimes with the rest of the apartment. "We wanted a slightly industrial look with clean lines ... something very masculine, but always with the texture and interest," says Teverini.

There is a second bathroom off the hallway on the left just before entering the living space. It was kept very simple and contemporary.
