At first glance, this quaint picturesque cottage seems to be transported straight out of a pastoral dream of the 18th century, mounting well with its neighbors. But as Stephanie Dunning, lead designer at Stephanie Dunning Interior Design, reveals the chalet in its current form is actually only 15 years old ...

The chalet has gone through many incarnations before reaching the finished state. Two previous structures accidentally burned, and unloved and shoddily built structure was then raised in their place. "We completely gutted it, extended and created the floor plan as it is now," says Stephanie.
The thatched roof, an iconic feature of the English country house, is found in abundance among the properties of Dorset. However, most are thatched with a long straw while Stephanie used water reeds. The country style kitchen functions as the hub of the house. Stephanie wanted to create a simple and light space with clean lines but still possessed the charm of the country.
The island has a hob, a bar and electrical outlets. "Gone are the days of ban someone in the kitchen, said Stephanie. Instead, an island allows the cook to interact with the entire room while preparing the oak worktop. The sockets also encourage interactive use of space, transforming the island into a workspace where family members can plug in their phones and laptops.
Stephanie has also appointed a kitchen wall as the official storage wall, with a large refrigerator, pantry and additional cabinets all housed together.

the dining room and lounge, which goes from the kitchen is a bright and welcoming space with a sweet country style. floor tiles slate manage boots and muddy paws. "I love the contrast between the white walls and dark floors," says Stephanie. She added the underfloor heating throughout the ground floor.

elegant console a flint surface was designed by the team of Stephanie and adds to the available surfaces in the room. Open shelving rows on each side provide a book is always at hand when the dining room is needed for quieter activities.

The formal living room, which is located on the right side of the house, offers a more traditional than the kitchen-dining room relaxed style.

"I still think that if you make stone along, it can be a bit tough and relentless. You can then put a carpet over seagrass, which acts as a leaf.

The fireplace, which came from a restoration site, is also new, and Stephanie and his team had built a conduit to ensure it works properly. The procedure was a bit difficult, because of the thatched house meant the fire was to be doubled to eliminate the possibility of sparks or overheating. One wing of the vintage club, which Stephanie picked results, adds a manor ambiance to the room.
Stephanie also designed the library next to the fireplace and added grids to lower cupboards, where the sound system in the room is housed. "The color of links in the slate floor in the kitchen," she says, creating a link between the rooms. The door next to the library led to the study.

study is a comfortable refuge, located at the far right of the house. Stephanie was designed as both a study and an additional sleeping space. "There's a TV in there too," she says. The eye-catching purple color on the shelves was a playful touch from Stephanie. She says Farrow & Ball came out this color, called Pelt, and she was immediately attracted to her.

the stairs in the hallway before is also a new addition. "Before, there was a spiral staircase on the outside, to the rear of the house," says Stephanie. She added that traditional staircase instead, which also has a utility room below.

the exterior of the house reveals Stephanie additions and his team controlled. She explained that there were lean on each side of the house, both of which have been spilled into the renovation. The addition on the right, which leads into the garden, used to be a sort of conservatory.
"We have a brick and flint extension to echo the evolution of the house," says Stephanie, deliberately highlighting the differences in style and materials from outside. "Because the house is in a conservation area, brick and flint were all to be agreed in advance," she adds.
